For my M.A. in ethnomusicology thesis I conducted research on the Navajo reservation near Chinle, Arizona during the summers of 1999 and 2000. Daniel Smiley, Navajo pastor and MNU alum, was my host. My study focused on efforts to make Christian worship more culturally relevant through the use of indigenous music. As part of my research I recorded and transcribed several examples of indigenous church music. Here are a few samples.
